ART AT THE RENDON is an ongoing series of creative programs featuring musical performances, lectures, artist residencies, and film screenings, all designed to celebrate and support the arts. In keeping with the rich history of the site, ART AT THE RENDON seeks to continue fostering creativity in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District by generating a dynamic space for art, performance and celebration.
ART AT THE RENDON kicked off in June, 2018, with HIDDEN ROOMS, an immersive experience that featured more than 50 artists, muralists, musicians, and performers. Together, they transformed every corner of THE RENDON into an interactive community-centric installation. Since then, we’ve held several more art events as fundraisers for local nonprofit organizations. In 2019, we launched The Rendon Gallery, and began holding gallery shows to benefit the community.
Through our fundraising events, Art At The Rendon and The Rendon Gallery have raised more than $100,000 for local nonprofits, including Art Share L.A., The Brady Campaign, Cornerstone Theater Company, Inner-City Arts, Industrial District Green, Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA), Las Fotos Project, Play with Music, and The Ron Finley Foundation.
“The idea of it is that over time, The Rendon will represent art, music, acting, theater… different layers of culture. A little bit of everything. We don’t want to repeat ourselves, we want to keep exploring.” – Ralph Ziman
Art At The Rendon has worked with an impressive list of local artists, arts organizations, educators, and businesses, including more than a hundred local and international visual artists, performers, and musicians, from emerging talent to established names. Ralph Ziman and Maria Greenshields-Ziman
Ralph Ziman and Maria Greenshields-Ziman, owners of The Rendon and founders of Art At The Rendon, are both working artists. They have exhibited their artwork in galleries around the world. This artistic background gives them a creative, forward-thinking approach to property development. They seek out ways to preserve the historical elements of existing buildings such as The Rendon, while revitalizing and redesigning each property for the future.
To that end, Ralph and Maria have been developing properties together for the last decade. They began collaborating in 2009 with a series of residential development builds in Venice Beach. To date they have built close to two dozen, modern architectural homes, many from the ground up. They have also worked numerous commercial properties together, including a shop and retail development on the resurgent Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach. They completed a loving restoration at 901 Pacific Avenue in Venice, a red brick building from 1912 that had suffered a half century of neglect. It’s now home to several shops and artist’s studios. Their restoration projects fuse sensitivity to original vernacular with a functional, bold, contemporary architectural style.
